Can't fathom shelling out three figures for a haircut? Make an appointment with a stylist-in-training. The following top salons hold regular "training nights" where you can get a cut for a fraction of their regular price.

Antonio Prieto Salon
Cutting classes are Thursdays at 9:45 a.m., $50. Cutting appointments with a supervised assistant, also $50, are Mondays through Fridays from 12-8 p.m.. Color appointments are Mondays through Thursdays from 12-8 p.m., $30 for single-process, $60 for highlights. Clients must sign up in person weekdays from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the salon for the next available appointment. Cash only payment must be made at the time of booking. Blow-dry classes are held Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.. Although free of charge, appointments must be made in advance.

Training sessions are held Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. by appointment only. Color, $25; cuts are free. Cash only.

Aveda Institute
Appointments with supervised students are available Tuesdays through Saturdays. Colorings and cuts are on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.; Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:15 a.m., 1 p.m., and 5:45 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays at 9:15 a.m. and 1 p.m.. Cuts are $18, and coloring starts at $35.
