New York is packed with fitness studios promising to help you achieve a lean, ballerina-like body, but at this one the results are quantifiable. Your first visit entails a one-on-one consultation with a Bari trainer ($125) who takes thirteen exacting body measurements, from bicep to ankle and everything in between, as well as evaluating nine unseen factors like body-fat percentage, muscle mass, visceral fat, and metabolic age. Thereafter, your body changes are fastidiously tracked on a monthly basis, as you bounce, lunge, crunch, and plié your way through the program ($35 per session). High-intensity classes of up to twelve members combine elements of Pilates, yoga, and ballet with heart-rate-boosting cardio routines to burn calories while you tone, incorporating props like the ballet bar, suspension bands, mini-trampolines, and free weights. Unlike overcrowded gyms or gridlock-prone yoga studios, Bari is members only; initial consultations are scheduled through referrals (by an existing member) or a luck-of-the-draw lottery system.
