  With fancy burger joints proliferating around town, shakes have followed suit, and though we’re reluctant to muck around with soda-fountain tradition, we’ve got to recognize the genius of brgr’s quirky blueberry-pomegranate concoction. To be honest, in a world of thin, insipid shakes and malteds, this one might win for sheer cheek-muscle-toning texture alone. But we commend brgr’s support of local agriculture in its use of rich, delicious vanilla ice cream and milk from Ronnybrook Farm Dairy in the Hudson Valley, which also supplies the tart and tangy fruit purée. Between the color and the thickness, it’s hard to finish one without identifying with the tragically bloated Violet Beauregarde. If she’d been to brgr, she wouldn’t have needed the gum.
