Best Breakfast

  • The Breslin Bar & Dining Room

    16 W. 29th St., nr. Broadway; 212-679-1939

The next time you have to go to a meeting, take it at the Breslin. Suggest that your client meet you for breakfast in April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman’s a.m. clubhouse at the Ace Hotel. Arrive a few minutes early, take a seat at the bar, and scan the paper while you drink a cup of Stumptown coffee. Greet your client and vie for a table with nice sight lines to the door—you’ll want to be aware of who’s walking in so you can stage-whisper notable names to your dining partner. Share a plate of pastries, then dupe your stomach with half a grapefruit sprinkled with ginger sugar and mint. The centerpiece is the Full English: fried egg, sausage, bacon, tomato, and mushrooms. The grilled ham-and-three-cheese sandwich is formidable; with an egg it’s unnerving. Other eggs are baked, poached, or frittata’ed. Bloomfield’s breakfast is not the most important meal of the day, it’s the only one you’ll need.
