Best Disco in an Office Building

Though Starvue is open just on select weekends, and the only way to get on the list is by emailing its owner, Chicago disco vet Cecily Pinkerton, the hassle is worth it. Walk into a nondescript office building: Behind a metal door at the end of a fluorescent-lit hallway is a 700-square-foot room packed with dancers grooving as if their lives depended on it to disco and garage sets from DJs like Mickey Perez and Anthony Jasper. The tunes come firing out of a ’70s four-point Klipschorn system that Pinkerton hand-picked, piece by piece, from the collections of audiophiles in Connecticut and Long Island, compiling one of the most extraordinary sound systems in the city.
