Best Petting Zoo

Fulfilling those Charlotte’s Web fantasies doesn’t require an elaborately choreographed trip upstate—just a quick hop uptown to the Art Farm, an urban petting zoo of sorts where a blue-tongued skink lives peacefully alongside rabbits, turtles, birds—even chinchillas. Every weekend morning from 8 to 10 a.m., the Farm, which is squeezed into the bottom two floors of an Upper East Side townhouse, opens its brown-painted stall doors for a few hours of kid-animal socializing ($15 per child). Intrepid tykes can walk right into the bird-filled aviary or bunny pen, while staffers are on hand to guide more-hesitant kids in the feeding, petting, and general cuddling of the farm’s menagerie.
