New parents with an eye for design discover two things: Nice kids’ furniture is really expensive, and babies typically leave you no disposable income. If the hand-me-down situation didn’t work out for you, and you’re not one for the hit-or-miss of Craigslist, the best new solution is reCrib, a searchable site for buying and selling cribs, car seats, swings, and the like. A sleek Netto Loft crib that usually sells for $1,500, for instance, was available for $500 last week. Moderators pay close attention to product recalls and new regulations—drop-side cribs are now no-nos, for example—and yank forbidden items from the site. Sellers are likely to get a better return for their wares here since buyers are already familiar with the brands. Recrib.com even offers delivery via the errand service TaskRabbit.com, which can, for a fee, send “personal assistants” to check the goods first before purchase, pick up and deliver, and even assemble items post-transaction.
