This hyperefficient mom-and-pop team is able to manage an average of five moves a day ($500 for the average one-bedroom), thanks to co-owner John McCutcheon’s high communication standards: He’ll send a group text an hour before the moving truck arrives, connecting driver, foreman, and customer. And since handling a move for the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music—a dream for McCutcheon, who majored in music at Carnegie Mellon—JP Urban has become the go-to for pianos: “We’ve done hundreds over the years,” he says. “The trick is kneeling the piano’s front leg just right.”
