Best Vintage Khakis

  • Wooden Sleepers

416 Van Brunt St., nr. Van Dyke St., Red Hook; 718-643-0802

While most vintage stores relegate the men’s rack to the back corner (and are heavy on the polyester Western button-downs), seasoned vintage buyer Brian Davis’s new Red Hook boutique is menswear focused and tightly edited. In addition to vintage Patagonia fleeces ($70) and preppy Harris Tweeds from the 1950s ($150), you’ll find a full spread of WWII-era khakis (from $78) yet to be bested by a contemporary designer: They’re constructed to take a beating with heavy cotton twill, roomy legs, and brass buttons. In Davis’s words, “the antithesis to the low-rise, skinny-leg epidemic.”
