Bereket
187 E. Houston St., at Orchard St.
212-475-7700

Turkish
A neighborhood standby for years, this self-described "Turkish kebab house" offers a lot more than just several varieties of meat on a stick (beef, chicken, lamb, even baby lamb, $5 to $10). Tasty falafel and stuffed grape leaves (both $3, $5 for large and perfect pita bread) are mainstays, and there are two house specials daily, such as the seasonal Turkish meatballs cooked in tomato sauce and served with fries ($7.50).

Congee Village
100 Allen St., between Delancey and Broome Sts.
212-941-1818

Chinese
It's a shame, really, to order in from Congee Village, the massive bi-level bar and restaurant, because eating at the recreated old-school Asian village, complete with wooden foot bridge, is so much fun. But if you're craving Chinese, it can't be beat; the lengthy but fairly standard menu ranges from dozens of congees ($2.50 to $7.75) to a great Singapore-style mei fun noodle dish ($5.95) to steamed frog ($9.95).

Minimum: $10
Delivery area: 10-block radius
Hours of delivery: 11 a.m. - 11 p.m
Credit cards: yes ($20 or more)

Festival Mexicano Restaurant
120 Rivington St., between Essex and Norfolk Sts.
212-995-0154

Mexican
The Lower East Side certainly doesn't lack Mexican joints, but Festival Mexicano is arguably the best. It's perfect for those killer fixes, with all the typical dishes represented: burritos ($6.50 to $8.50), nachos ($4 to $5.50), and seafood platters like shrimp in hot sauce ($11.95). The enchiladas ($9 to $11), properly smothered in melted cheese, are particularly delicious.

Minimum: $10
Delivery area: 3-block radius
Hours of delivery: 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Khushie
139 Essex St., between Stanton and Rivington Sts.
212-477-4400

Indian
Though the samosas ($3) are sometimes slightly soggy, you can't beat Khushie for fresh and tasty Indian food. At least that's what the cabbies say, who regularly stop by for a quick meal. The okra with onions, tomatoes, and spices ($5.95) is a good vegetarian choice, and the tandoori chicken ($6.95) is wonderfully tender. (Both come with basmati rice.) And even if you're anti-carb, the breads ($1 to $2) are too good to resist.

Minimum: $15
Delivery area: Sixth Ave. to East River, E. 21st St. to South St.

This slightly mysterious venture, with no eat-in and no take-out, specializes in fresh Asian fare that's delivered to your door. Entrees range from a really wonderful chap chae ($8.50)--sweet potato glass noodles tossed with sauteed vegetables--to a Korean staple like bibimbap ($9), and a Japanese one like panko-fried chicken and pork ($7.50). Starters include three kinds of dumplings ($5 to $5.50) and four types of pajun/pancakes (pancakes, 6 to $8).

Schiller's Liquor Bar

131 Rivington St., at Norfolk St.
212-260-4555

Continental
Perhaps the best thing to happen to delivery in the Lower East Side is that virtually everything on the menu at much-hyped Schiller's is available to order. Though you miss out on the brasserie vibe (and the hip crowds), you can still get the steak frites ($18), the Welsh rarebit sandwich ($11), and pastas like the hearty rigatoni ($12) with sausage, cream and tomatoes (especially nice since the neighborhood's Italian places don't deliver). It all comes in a chic brown paper bag with handles and a sticker that says "Take-Away."

Minimum: Any normal meal; won't just deliver dessert.
Delivery area: Grand St. to 14th St., Lafayette St. to Ave. B

Soy
102 Suffolk St., between Delancey and Rivington Sts.
212-253-1158

Japanese
Like its name implies, this tiny storefront makes great use of soy in its classic and contemporary Japanese dishes. Shiitake mushrooms and carrots also enliven the soy sauce-flavored "special rice" ($2 to $3.50), while tofu adds a healthy kick to everything from the homemade meat dumplings ($3.95) to the six different smoothies ($2.95) boasting flavors that travel from east (green tea) to west (strawberry-banana). Real meat entrees such as Beef'n Potato and Ginger Pork are also available.

Tiengarden
170 Allen St., between Stanton and Rivington Sts.
212-388-1364

Vegetarian, Vegan
Although Moby's vegetarian café teany a few blocks away may be more high profile, especially with the hipster set, Tiengarden goes far beyond mere sandwiches and other simple snacks. It offers no less than 28 different entrees, all 100% vegan, from spongy soy nuggets cooked with veggies and cashews in a curry peanut sauce ($8.95) to stir-fried noodles mixed with strips of seitan (flavored wheat gluten, which tastes better than it sounds) and, you guessed it, more veggies ($6.50).

Minimum: $10
