Best Pickup Basketball
Horatio Street at Hudson Street

Walk ten blocks in any direction, in virtually any neighborhood, and you’ll stumble upon a basketball court with a feisty game of street ball in progress. The problem is, unless you happen to be Karl Malone in town for the day, the idea of hopping into such games is as intimidating as crashing the Oscars. The courts at Horatio and Hudson are a rare Manhattan exception. There are three half-court baskets lined up on this no-nonsense blacktop, and the games tend to range in skill level—from ripped, shirtless wannabe hustlers to paunchy office buddies trying to stay in shape—so the odds are excellent that you’ll blend right in.
