Throwing pots is a lot harder than Demi Moore made it look in Ghost, and the first thing pottery students learn is the importance of patience and practice. Yet few of the city's pottery studios offer the opportunity to work on weekends. That's where Supermud stands out: It has Saturday and Sunday open-studio hours that cater to weekend artisans. Potters straddle wheels in front of windows that overlook the magnolia-lined Broadway mall. Semesters run eight to twelve weeks, depending on the season, and cost about $325. Spring classes begin in early April. Check out the Open House, April 30 to May 5, for free wheel demonstrations, clay samples, and firing info. Pay only for what you paint ($4-$30) at the paint bar — the regular $6-per-half-hour charge is waived during the open house.
