Amanda Switzer, who has guided for the past two years under the aegis of East End fly-fishing godfather Paul Dixon, is now the captain of her own boat. Switzer, the first woman fly-rod guide on the East End, can accommodate two anglers on her twenty-foot Hewes light tackle skiff, a stable casting platform favored by Florida Keys guides for bonefish and tarpon. In the spring, Switzer offers sight fishing for stripers in the pristine waters of Gardiner's Bay, a short ride from her slip in Three Mile Harbor. Come autumn, she joins the throng at Montauk for riotous bass, albacore, and bluefish blitzes. Switzer is a first-rate caster and an encouraging teacher and was born with uncanny fishing sense, to boot. Her rates are $450 for a full day, $300 for a half. Tackle and lunch provided.
