If you want to make a big hit on Broadway, call attention to yourself. In addition to his much-touted foie gras-infused burger, Daniel Boulud's reinvented vitello tonnato (tuna carpaccio, crispy veal-sweetbread nuggets, and tuna-anchovy sauce) is an updated revival of an Italian classic. The room is more cool modern Parisian than faux Left Bank, the cocktails bracing, and the service parfait.

Island Burgers and Shakes
766 Ninth Avenue, near 51st Street
212-307-7934

Island Burgers and Shakes is a wafer-thin joint with trencherman-size burgers and thick, creamy milk shakes that allow you to wear your chocolate (or vanilla) mustache with pride. The burgers offer a range of spicy, gooey, cheesy, vegetably, bacony toppings that are always fresh and flavorful. The churrasco is the best chicken sandwich we have ever had -- or dreamed of -- by miles. One caveat: no fries. You won't miss them.
