Prune: Digging in to fish pastes and sausages.

THE VIBE THE DISH EYE OPENER
The City Bakery
3 West 18th Street
212-366-1414
The mellow mezzanine above the salad-bar fray has banquettes, bowling-alley chairs, and, on Sundays, table service.
Reconstructed classics, from salami and eggs to congee. And dueling French toasts, in sweet and savory versions. A shot of creamy hot chocolate, the tart and tangy lemonade of the day, or a beer float -- stout with a scoop of molasses ice cream.
Hadom
137 Seventh Avenue South
212-206-7374
Chain-smoking, soccer-obsessed Israeli expats, Jewish families chowing down on Sabbath cholent, and devout hummus-heads.
How do you like your eggs? With shakshuka, the savory pepper-and-tomato stew, hangover cure par excellence. Homemade lemonade with fresh mint sprigs, before it runs out.
Il Posto Accanto
190 East 2nd Street
212-228-3562
Wine-bar dark, with twisted grape vines overhead, communal seating, and a strict crowd-control policy. Melted cheese, spaghetti carbonara, or uova di trippa, a ribboned frittata with tomatoes, basil, and ultracrispy home fries. More delectable Italian wines than you're willing to face first thing in the morning, which is why they start serving at noon.
NL
169 Sullivan Street
212-387-8801
High design that makes you grin, from the miniature coat hangers and Dutch tulips to the tiled portrait of Queen Beatrix.
A Dutch pancake is a cross between a crêpe and Aunt Jemima's. Try one stuffed with bacon and drizzled with maple syrup. You, too, can be a flying Dutchman after a shot or two of jenever, Dutch gin. And there's always Heineken.
Prune
54 East First Street
212-677-6221
Bright, sunny, funky, and friendly, with a prime view of the handball action in the park across the street. The Youth Hostel Breakfast of fish pastes and sundry sausages is a campy homage to Eurail Passes past. Nine takes on the Bloody Mary, garnished with everything from anchovies to Brussels sprouts. And a beer chaser.
Superfine
126 Front Street, Brooklyn
718-243-9005
A makeshift dining room of cast-off furniture installed on a one-time loading dock. Industrial, artsy: DUMBO on the verge.
Imported New Mexican Hatch chilies make for a sincerely spicy, bodaciously stuffed breakfast burrito, but only on Sundays. It's all about the green chilies. They'll wake you right up.
