At Jay Kos (986 Lexington Avenue, near 72nd Street; 212-327-2382), color runs riot, which is why the ties here shatter red-and-blue convention handsomely ($125-$150). Don't be scared by the preppy staples the store also carries, like those corduroys covered with whales. |
Best known for Savile Row-style shirts, Thomas Pink (520 Madison Avenue, at 53rd Street, 212-838-1928; and 1155 Sixth Avenue, at 44th Street, 212-840-9663) is also super for bold woven ties in simple patterns ($75-$85). A sharp way to brighten up that closetful of royal-blue shirts. |

"Aw, get a shirt that fits!" one of our colleagues recently exclaimed upon seeing a rather dumpy executive's photo in the Times. We'd send that CEO to Ascot Chang (7 West 57th Street; 212-759-3333), where custom shirts start at a surprisingly reasonable $100 and go to about $500. |
You can take the custom route at Seize sur Vingt (243 Elizabeth Street; 212-343-0476). But the off-the-rack stuff often made from the same superb fabrics, and less expensive ($120-$200) will still set you head and (well-clad) shoulders above your competition. |
Leather |
There aren't many men's briefcases at Hermès (691 Madison Avenue, at 64th Street; 212-751-3181), but the ones it does carry are simply perfect: sleek yet formal, with elegant hardware and immaculate leather ($3,500-$4,500). |
The leather jackets at Calvin Klein (654 Madison Avenue, at 60th Street; 212-292-9000) owe little to their biker brethren: They're supersoft, and cut slim enough that your girlfriend may try to "borrow" yours. Justify the (high) price by saying you'll both wear it ($1,200-$2,700). |
Metal |
The accessories at Dunhill (711 Fifth Avenue, near 56th Street; 212-753-9292) were good enough for licensed-to-kill 007; surely, they'll help you merely dress to kill. We particularly love the hex-key "Nut and Bolt" cuff links ($70).

For cuff links that range from Dean Martin cool (vintage enamel) to geek chic (repurposed antique typewriter keys), linger over the display cases at The Missing Link (40 West 25th Street, Shop LL108; 212-645-6928).
