But those mass-produced plants constitute only a tiny percentage of the family orchidae, and for a glimpse of the spectacular varieties that never make it to the discount stores, try Simply Orchids. Owner Kerk Cyrus — "just wild about orchids," he describes himself, and he's clearly got the fever — has dozens of brightly colored, unusual forms in the shop and will order many more on demand from growers in Hawaii and Florida. His prices are quite reasonable, too: Many plants are in the $20-to-$50 range.
