Best Junk Shop
Green Village
460 Driggs Avenue, Brooklyn
718-599-4017

With the 26th Street flea market getting smaller to make room for more high-rises, and so-called thrift shops getting pricier by the minute, it’s time to get back to basics -- down-and-dirty junk shopping. For eight years, Green Village has been a secret source for many antiques dealers, interior designers, and, yes, vendors from the 26th Street market. Sidney Ober, proprietor of this 10,000-square-foot space, has amassed multiples in every category imaginable. Need a piano? He’s got two. Sporting equipment, electronics, kids’ furniture, housewares, books, record albums, bikes, sleds, “art,” vintage trophies, clothing by the pound, and a box full of bowling balls -- it’s all here. (Shag rugs bought here for $20 recently sold on Lafayette Street for $1,800.) The caveat? Get ready to dig. While aisles are basically organized by category, it’s no department store.
