For years, guys have had two options: little Lycra numbers from the European fashion houses or the J.Crew and Speedo stuff that everyone else on the beach is wearing. No longer. St. Tropez’s famous Vilebrequin swimwear company opened its first Manhattan boutique in November, and it’s packed with manly, classically cut trunks in a staggering choice of colors and patterns. Look for everything from basic solids and stripes to Indian-inspired elephant prints, abstract florals, and even strawberry-, kiwi-, or pineapple-covered numbers (men’s suits are $110). All suits come with handy built-in airtight plastic pouches to keep cash and keys secure while you swim. There are kids’ sizes ($56) and matching beach towels ($60 or $150), too.
