Boris Lietzow, the German-born proprietor of this friendly nook inside the Bergdorf men’s store, scours Europe for the watchmakers that aficionados and collectors seek. Look for wonderful, arcane models from De Grisogono, Bovet, Mauboussin, Parmigiani, and Jaquet-Droz. Linger over the hand-made cases from Cedric Johner or the egg-shaped ones from Mellerio dits Meller (one of the world’s oldest watch manufacturers). Prices start as low as $600 for respectable mechanical styles, but the sky’s not the limit on what you can spend here. If it’s a high-end industry standard that you want (Rolex, Tag Heuer, Movado), but you can’t quite afford the list price, shoulder your way to the back of the Jewelers on Fifth Exchange to Yaeger Watch (578 Fifth Avenue, at 47th Street, Booth 54; 212-819-0088), where you’ll find the big names at lower prices.
