Endurance
Memorial
- Stuart D. Gosswein Washington, D.C.
"My design is limited to the memorial only: a 20-story
glass fountain with design elements that symbolically memorialize
the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, Pentagon,
and Pennsylvania.
Water will flow down the sides of the twin towers, collect
in a suspended pentagon-shaped pool, and then drop to a lower
pool through 3,000 holes (each dedicated to a victim).
The fountain will sit in a large circular, tree-lined plaza
(Pennsylvania). The plaza will include five glass walls on
which are inscribed the victims’ names.
Observations decks will be inside the towers and, at night,
a blue laser from each tower will be seen from great distances.
An object of beauty and reflection, the structure will be
a fitting centerpiece to this sacred site, now and for future
generations."
