Yang’s dresses can be stunning (a raw organza mermaid cut) or sweet (strapless with a tulle neckline). Custom gowns start at $1,950; samples are 10 to 15 percent off. Visit the East Village sample store before the Tribeca location. Alterations not included.

VeKa

Owners Ksenia and Jana stock their intimate Nolita boutique with American and European designers such as Palazzo and Suzanne Ermann, whose fresh and playful designs attract those looking for something edgy yet still with a bridal feel. From $2,500 to $5,000. Alterations start at $300. By appointment only.

Vera Wang

The grande dame of bridal gowns offers dresses (from $3,000) for every kind of bride. Silhouettes range from simple A-lines to showstoppers with layered, ruffled, sweeping skirts (yes, sometimes all in one dress). Made-to-order dresses are available. Alterations not included; tailoring done off-site.

Wedding Atelier

This Flatiron shop carries popular bridal designers, such as Christian Lacroix and Alvina Valenta; it also offers a variety of traditional Chinese wedding dresses. The brightly lit space is beset with mirrors, and its helpful staff can customize a dress in ten weeks or less, if necessary. Wedding dresses start at $1,800. By appointment only.

The Wedding Salon

The Wedding Salon is the only place on Long Island where brides can find designs by Vera Wang and Reem Acra. For brides looking for something specific, the store hosts several trunk shows throughout the year where shoppers can preview collections by Kenneth Pool, Amsale, and Monique Lhuillier. Prices upon request.
