The lunch menu reads “chicken potpie,” but it’s not what you think. What’s missing here is the pie. In its place are wide noodles shaped like short pappardelle. Old-timers of German descent and natives of Pennsylvania Dutch country know the dish as bot boi (potpourri), essentially chicken stew. Initially you may feel that you’ve become a victim of false advertising, but one creamy, soul-soothing, wind-chill-defying bite will have you considering the notion that the best part of a chicken potpie is not the pastry but the filling.
