Catch a musician here and chances are you’ll start seeing him everywhere—headlining the Village Vanguard like pianist David Virelles or winning a MacArthur grant like saxophonist Miguel Zenon. Forced out of its longtime Soho address, the nonprofit moved to the Flatiron district in December; its new digs—an airy white box located on the fifth floor of a nondescript office building—couldn’t be a better fit for the high-caliber shows programmed by director Rio Sakairi. And that’s to say nothing of the jazz, which embodies a wide stylistic range while always delivering the genre’s signature element of surprise.
