163 W. 10th St., at Seventh Ave.; 646-476-4346
Until Mezzrow opened this past September, there wasn’t a dedicated piano room in the city where jazz fiends could find craft cocktails and tourist-free café tables. Run by the owners of Smalls, the scruffy longtime favorite across Seventh Avenue, Mezzrow spotlights bebop duos drawn from the best musicians in town—like Gerald Clayton, Aaron Goldberg, and Johnny O’Neal—who always sound lush on the new Steinway Parlor Grand in the narrow, candlelit space. Head there any night of the week and you’ll find jazz neophytes on first dates and connoisseurs sipping hibiscus gin punches ($13) at the mahogany Brunswick bar.
