Grown-Up Beer Hall

Landbrot
137 Seventh Ave. S., nr. Charles St.; 212-255-7300
Nothing about this recently opened bar-bakery suggests it’s the type of boisterous German beer hall this city has come to know. As evidenced by the marble bar and the vintage German flour sacks artfully stitched into a banquette, Landbrot is an upscale destination for beer-savoring, not chugging. Connoisseurs come for the selection of Höss on tap, as this is the only place in the U.S. dispensing the 350-year-old brewery’s hooch, and five other rare Bavarian beers (drafts from $6.50 to $8), as well as for the chill vibe often soundtracked by the Black Keys or Nina Simone. And the signature housemade pretzels ($3), of course.
