Metal Dive

The Anchored Inn
57 Waterbury St., at Scholes St., Bushwick; 718-576-3297
Cerberus doesn’t guard the door, but this deliberately grungy bar, located next to concert venue the Acheron, occupies a heavenly corner of the New York underworld. Don’t go here late at night expecting solitude or intimate conversation; the near-deafening, largely metal soundtrack is controlled by iPod-wielding bartenders, playing to a rowdy crowd swaddled in leather and punk patches. Black-velvet paintings—including portraits of Vladimir Putin and a woman riding a centaur—line the walls, giving the space a Lemmy Kilmister–boudoir feel. Chef Mike Bergemann’s hand-cut Carmen fries (slathered in aged Cheddar, bacon lardons, and scallions, $9) complement the rotating lineup of domestic and craft beers (Rogue, Southern Tier), but for the less discerning, daylong PBR-and-shot combos ($6) and $3 happy-hour Yuenglings should suffice.
