The Drink
228 Manhattan Ave., nr. Grand St., Williamsburg; 718-782-8463
A collaboration among alumni of Williamsburg mainstays Spuyten Duyvil, Fette Sau, and 3rd Ward, this naval-themed, punch-obsessed neighborhood joint emphasizes its owners’ love of craft. Beneath a ceiling papered with old naval maps and walls decked with anchors and ships’ wheels, groups ladle into $43 bowls of delicately spiced punch, like the Crusade—made with Indian rum, rooibos and Earl Grey teas, orange peel, clove, peppercorn, allspice, peppermint, and lemon—big enough for ten. (A daily special offers $5 glasses as well.) On weekends, overflow crowds spill out onto the patio, and those who have regained their sea legs by morning can return for the $16 brunch special: a Bloody Mary with a bagel, ricotta, and house-smoked salmon.
